MTA Hotspots
A hotspot is a specific geographic location where wireless broadband service is available to customers with Wi-Fi enabled laptops or PDAs. While in a hotspot, you can access your corporate network, check your email, access Web-based applications, download large files, or just surf the Web.

Accessing A Hotspot
MTA DSL customers pay nothing for MTA hotspot access – it’s a convenient, free-to-roam extra that’s included free with your DSL service. Sign Up For DSL Today »
A non-subscriber will need to establish an MTA hotspot username and password before they access the service. To set up your MTA hotspot username and password, or to subscribe to MTA Internet, please use the online sign up form.
There are 3 different rate categories. Logins only work with each category (RV to RV) and are not transferable (RV to coffee shop):
RV Parks — $3/hr, $9.95/day, $14.95/wk, $19.95/mo
Credit Union — All the MVFCU locations $6.00/day
Cafés, Arenas, Spas — $6/day, $19.95/monthMTA's hotspots use a WiFi 802.11b network; therefore any Wi-Fi certified wireless network card will work.
Logging In
Turn on your laptop. After start-up, check your wireless card by double-clicking on the icon in the tray at the bottom right of your screen or by going to Network Connections through the Start menu. Once your card is activated, launch your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape).

When you see the MTAOnline Hotspot page, enter your username (for MTA customers, it's the part before @mtaonline.net) and password and you’re good to go. If you see “Internet page cannot be found,” type a URL in the address bar, such as www.mtasolutions.com or www.google.com, and hit enter. Another way: Type ipconfig /release into your browser's address bar and hit enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and enter. Older laptops might require this process: Access the software for the Wi-Fi card — normally an icon in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen. Click the "search button" in the software. The card will search for all of the available hotspots in the area and show you a list. Double-click on one of the hotspots to connect to it. |
If that doesn’t work, find the SSID of the hotspot (usually a short word of 10 characters or less) as well as the channel number (an integer between 1 and 11) and type these two pieces of information in manually. All the search feature is doing is grabbing these two pieces of information from the radio signals generated by the hotspot and displaying them for you.

Your Corporate Network
If your employer gave you a virtual private network (VPN) client and firewall, you can seamlessly access your corporate network. MTAOnline strongly recommends that you take measures to ensure the security of your wireless connections, such as VPNs, encryption and firewalls.
If you are experiencing any problems accessing your corporate network using a virtual private network (VPN), please call your corporate IT department for assistance.
Simultaneous Hotspot And Home Connections
Both your laptop and your home computer can access your MTAOnline account at the same time. Any downloading you do will go towards your 10 gigabyte limit that is included with your high-speed Internet account.
